Haller tributes paid in Germany

Tributes are being paid to Helmut Haller, the man who scored West Germany's opening goal in the 1966 World Cup final, who died on Thursday.

Haller, who made 33 appearances for West Germany and scored 13 goals, including six in the 1966 World Cup, died at the age of 73 at his home in Augsburg.

"Helmut Haller is one of the outstanding personalities of German Football," said German FA president Wolfgang Niersbach."His amazing performances, particularly at the 1966 World Cup, are unforgettable … his death really saddens us."

Germany players to receive £20k a game

Players of the German national team have agreed on a structure of bonuses for their qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup.

Every player will receive 20,000 euros per appearance, although the money will be withheld until Germany have successfully qualified for the tournament.

Germany have made a successful start to their qualifying campaign with two wins out of two against Faroe Islands and Austria but Republic of Ireland will be hoping to stop them this Friday night.

West Germany great Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, now the chairman of Bayern Munich, is a sprightly 57 today. Alles gute zum Geburtstag, Karl-Heinz!
