Scunthorpe have completed their 10th summer signing with the arrival of former Wolves striker Sam Winnall.

The 23-year-old, recently released by Wolves, has put pen to paper on a one-year deal after scoring three goals in four appearances for them during a trial spell.

Scunny look at former Premier League strikers

Manager Brian Laws has challenged Scunthorpe trialists Deon Burton and Craig Fagan to impress him as the two strikers seek a new club.

Laws intends to run the rule over the pair in a friendly against Frickley Athletic on Tuesday night as the League Two outfit crank up their pre-season preparations.

Scunthorpe are looking at Burton and Fagan, both without a club since respective releases from Gillingham and Bury, as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Scunthorpe have sacked manager Alan Knill after a disastrous start to the League One season, and have immediately replaced him with Brian Laws, who will start his second spell at Glanford Park on Tuesday. Laws previously managed Scunthorpe between 1997 and 2006.

Clough keeps it positive

"We haven't even started our league programme yet and we are already feeling rotten." Derby boss Nigel Clough reacts to his side's penalty shoot-out defeat by Scunthorpe. The Rams were leading 5-3 in injury time before Scunthorpe scored twice, forcing a 5-5 draw, extra-time and penalties.
