Many happy returns to former England, Newcastle United and Manchester City defender Steve Howey, who turns 40 today. Sunderland-born Howey made a name for himself in the mid-nineties as part of Kevin Keegan's swashbuckling Newcastle side, and earned four England caps under Terry Venables too.

Also celebrating today are Inter's Romanian defender Christian Chivu (32) and Schalke 04's Peruvian winger Jefferson Farfan (28).
