Lahm retires from international football

After leading Germany to World Cup victory, team captain Philipp Lahm has retired from international football.

The 30 year old, who has played 113 times for his country, will continue playing club football at Bayern Munich.

He has been captain since 2010 and in four years led them to semi-finals of both the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 before crowning his career at the Maracana with World Cup glory in Brazil.

That was the ninth trophy Lahm had picked up in just two years having clinched the Bundesliga twice, the DFB-Pokal twice, the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the German Supercup, and the FIFA Club World Cup for Bayern Munich.
