ITV's IPL coverage kicks off this Friday

ITV's IPL coverage kicks off this Friday

The waiting is over - IPL season four is coming to your screens, kicking off on Friday with the first game of the 2011 tournament. Matt Smith presents live coverage of the opening match of season four from 2.45pm.

In a game you can watch live on ITV4 and ITV.com, last year's champions the Chennai Super Kings begin their defence of the title against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai.

Boasting a squad containing the talented West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo and backed up by Australian bowlers Doug Bollinger and Ben Hilfenhaus, the Super Kings go into the game as one of the tournament favourites.

But the Kolkata Knight Riders, who feature international legends Brett Lee and Jacques Kallis, and backed by charismatic franchise owner Shah Rukh Khan, will be out to silence the home crowd in Chennai.

The game also sees home favourites MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir go head to head.

Friday's game is the first of each of this year's 74 IPL matches, to be broadcast free-to-air on ITV4 and simulcast live on ITV.com. ITV will bring you every game live, building up to the final on 28th May.

Joining Matt Smith throughout the tournament will be a host of big names from the world of cricket, including broadcaster and journalist Simon Hughes, current England Twenty20 captain Paul Collingwood, and former England internationals Alec Stewart, Mark Butcher, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Vikram Solanki.

Meanwhile on ITV.com, throughout the tournament you'll be able to find blogs, profiles of every team and details of all the fixtures.

The 2011 season will be played across 12 venues in India, and sees the addition of two new franchises - the Kochi Tuskers Kerala and the Pune Warriors. The competition attracts some of the world’s greatest players and in 2011 will include Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne, Daniel Vettori, Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Graeme Smith, along with English players including Michael Lumb, Eoin Morgan and Owais Shah.

Tune in to Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders live from Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium from 2.45pm on Friday, on ITV4 and ITV.com
