12 June - Salta to seal the season

Published: Friday, 12 June 2009, 5:01PM

There's been a different flavour to the past few days compared to normal international weeks.

We're in Argentina to face the Pumas for a second time in seven days and there's a real buzz around the city of Salta ahead of the game.

When we landed there were loads of autograph hunters and people after photos: and now we're in the hotel there are constantly kids lurking around wanting shirts signed. It's a great atmosphere here and a very pleasant 22 degrees into the bargain.

Also, we're getting a police escort everywhere we go - which is probably a bit unnecessary but it makes us feel important!

Our hotel is up on a hill looking across the whole city, and yesterday we got the cable car up to the top of the mountain and the views were stunning from up there.

Last night, we went out for a bite to eat and the waiters were all singing for us: so everywhere we've been the people have been great and really welcoming.

I'm not sure the Argentina team will be quite so friendly in the Test match tomorrow and that's why we'll need the likes of my Quins team-mate Chris Robshaw, who is getting his first start, to be on top of his game.

I'm chuffed for Robbo getting his first full cap for England and I know he'll do really well. He'll run his socks off and be making tackles all over the pitch which is what we're going to need.

We were really pleased with the win last week. I know some of the crowd wanted us to run the ball instead of kicking it but Argentina are very, very tough opponents and you don't turn down the chance of points against them.

You need to keep that scoreboard ticking over and that's what we did. Fans want to see flowing rugby but we had to win the game, first and foremost - and we did score three tries.

It was funny to see Mark Cueto, a United fan at Old Trafford, showing off his football skills out on the wing.

At one point I threw the ball right at his foot and he showed the crowd what he's capable of!

Tomorrow night we're told there will be some kind of carnival after the game, so that should be a laugh.

A lot of us know the Argentinian lads from playing in Europe so I'm sure we'll take the chance to have a couple of beers at the end of a long season.

I've got about a month off and have two holidays lined up: first I'm off to Las Vegas for a week and then heading to Jamaica. I can't wait to just lie on a beach and do nothing for a while.

The body is a bit sore at this stage of the campaign but I can't really complain - it's the forwards who have it far tougher than I do.

We're determined to sign off this season with a victory and make it 2-0 against Argentina - here's hoping we can manage it.

Cheers,
DC
