Andy Schleck comes from an illustrious racing heritage – father Johnny Schleck was a professional rider for almost a decade, and his older brother Frank Schleck is a known name in the cycling world.

While the younger Schleck has only been a professional since 2005, he is already considered a potential Tour de France winner after major victories in the last two years.

Schleck came to attention at the 2007 CSC training camp in California, beating his brother in a final test on a climb.

Despite his own ambition, Schleck is very much a team player. In 2008 he finished fourth at Liege-Bastogne-Liege after sacrificing his chances to help his brother in the finale of the race.

Andy also sacrificed his own chances to help Frank in the overall standings in the 2008 Tour de France, allowing his brother to wear the yellow jersey for some time.

Schleck has won the young rider classification in the 2007 Giro d’Italia and the 2008 Tour de France.

His most noted professional victory came earlier this year when he came first in the Liege-Bastogne-Liege race.

It is due to this meteoric rise that Schleck is expected to share joint Saxo Bank team leadership with his brother this year.
