We over at ITV2 are a little bit addicted to The Vampire Diaries. TVD Tuesday causes the entire office to rush off early to grab the best place on the sofa, a slice of pizza and forget the rest of the world.
If you haven't seen it, we’ve drawn up this list of reasons why you should become a member of Team TVD.
Eye Candy
The Vampire Diaries is a very good looking show. If we lived in Mystic Falls we're pretty sure we would have walked out in front of a bus while eyeing up one of the hot residents. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is a particular favourite. We can't decide what we like best about him, we can all agree he delivers some amazing eyebrow work. And let's not forget…the entire rest of the cast!
The Performances
OK, OK, it's a bit pretty on this show. But that doesn’t mean the cast can't act. Performances that convince you that vampires, werewolves and witches are normal, everyday things are not to be sniffed at. Particular credit must go to Nina Dobrev for playing 'everygirl' Elena and hundreds-of-years-old vampire-psychopath Katherine, sometimes in the same scene!
The Cliffhangers
At about 10PM on a Tuesday night, there is a collective scream of "OMG" from living rooms all over the nation. Why? Because The Vampire Diaries has just finished. On YET ANOTHER cliffhanger. How this show keeps the plot twists coming - without getting ridiculous - amazes us week after week.
Snappy Dialogue
Just look at it!
Damon: You have to be invited into houses.
Logan (a newly turned vampire): I live alone.
Damon: Sucks for you.
Elijah: Yes, I'm a little behind on the times, but I believe the term you're searching for is... OMG.
Damon: I see something I haven't seen before, I'll throw a dollar at it.
The Soundtrack
Want to listen to some of the best music being produced today? Forget The X Factor. It's all about The Vampire Diaries. Not just tracks from established artists, but rising stars too. Even ITV2's resident musical snobs are pretty impressed with the soundtrack. And that’s saying something!
The TVD Family
The Vampire Diaries fans aren't just fans. They're a family. If you want to talk TVD any time of the day, there are plenty of places to do it – from our Facebook page, on Twitter or over at our friends – vampire-diaries.net (Warning: A bit spoiler-y over there) but expect a warm welcome.
The Live Experience
Ever watched The Vampire Diaries while on Twitter? Get on the #TVDUK hashtag and chat live to the other fans. @ITV2 is always there trying to be entertaining and mashing the keyboard everytime something exciting happens (we've gone through a few keyboards now…) along with a whole bunch of regular viewers offering their opinions and commentary. If you’re particularly good, you might even get a mention in the credits!
Books Too
Remember, The Vampire Diaries was a series of books before a TV series. And don’t think that just because you've watched the series you don't need to read the books. Despite sharing a title, some characters and a few bits of plot, they are very, very different. And there are lots of them – so get your read on!
Anything Can Happen
Yes, anything! While other shows might shy away from killing off a main character, The Vampire Diaries does this. A lot. Just when you’re thinking, 'Hey, they've been in the show loads. They must be safe.' BAM. Dead. But just because they're dead, doesn't mean they stay that way…
No Good, No Evil
Apart from Elena, who is the good guy on The Vampire Diaries? That's a head scratcher. Characters we care about do terrible things. Terrible characters do caring things. Morality is a tricky subject in Mystic Falls. And for us watching.
