Earlier this month, St John Ambulance aired a shocking new television advert, as part of a campaign encouraging people to learn first aid. The ad follows the journey of a man who is diagnosed with cancer, undergoes treatment and survives, only to die as a result of choking at a barbecue because no one knows the basic first aid that could have saved his life.
According to St John Ambulance, 140,000 people die each year in situations where first aid could have helped save their lives. That's as many as die from cancer. And 75% of use don't know basic first aid skills.
