The period between New Year and Easter always brings an increase in unwanted dogs for animal charities up and down the county. As cute Christmas puppies grow older, once-enthusiastic owners realise how much care and attention they need and are no longer able to cope.
Today we are joined by three of these homeless hounds, all looking for a loving home. We are also joined by dog lover, Matt Johnson, who hopes one day to rehome a dog of his own, and re-homing expert Nico Joiner who will put Matt through a mock interview, as well as offering lots of expert tips.
DOG 1 - BRONSON THE MONGREL PUPPY (from Battersea Dogs Home)
Bronson is a gorgeous 10 month old mongrel puppy. He has a distinctive 'eye patch' and a lovely playful temperament. He was brought into Battersea 2 months ago. He will need owners with some experience of dogs as he is a high energy and active dog so will need an active household who are happy to give him quite a lot of attention and training. He could be suitable for something like dog agility as he has really good motivation, and responds really well to training with food! He would be perfect for teenagers, so kids over the age of 13 would be ideal. He would need to have access to a garden, would be fine to live with other dogs, but not cats.
Age: 10 months
Needs experienced owners with lots of energy!
Great motivation for training
Can be homed with other dogs & children over 13
DOG 2 - BARRY THE BRINDLE MASTIFF (from RSPCA)
Barry is a three-year-old male Brindle Mastiff. He arrived at the RSPCA in Godstone, Surrey on 27th January 2014. He is a 'gentle giant' who can live with other dogs and enjoys playing with new doggy friends. Barry can live with children of primary school age and has very good basic training. He is suitable for a first time owner. Barry is due to have an operation on his back leg soon and the centre would like him to be rehomed as soon as possible afterwards so he can recuperate in a loving environment. He is a sweet natured boy who really deserves a loving 'forever home'.
Breed: Brindle Mastiff
Age: 3 years (approx)
Loves other dogs
Good with primary school age children
Needs an owner with a big heart!
Originally found straying four year-old Itchy is a lovely gentle boy that is looking for owners to match. He used to have a kennel mate called Scratchy - hence the unusual name! He is good with dogs, even small ones and he must have friends in the park. Itchy will need time to settle in to the home, so patient owners are a must for him. With time and patience he will make a lovely addition to the home. Itchy is looking for people that have had dogs before and are prepared to let him settle in give him the training that he needs. Leaving hours should be built up slowly.
Age: 4 years
Loves other dogs
Needs patient, experienced owners
Can be homed with children over 10
