It compliments all skin tones and is the quickest way to brighten up the complexion and add a bit of glamour in a flash.
Any shade goes this season, from bold fuschias to tangerine oranges and bubble gum pinks. Some of the celebrities who love a bright lip colour are Emily Blunt, Zooey Dechannel and Rhianna
But bright lips aren’t just ready to wear for the famous and today I’m going to show how you can make that bold step yourself and be on trend for the spring!
When it comes to bold lip colours I always start with a lip primer that will moisturize away flakes, fill in fine lines and create a smoother base for lipstick. A good one will also help to stop lipstick from feathering.
WASH OFF BRONZER
Bronzing is the next step! Wash off bronzers are better than ever and some of the new formulas around are brilliant for adding warmth that it subtle and easy to blend. You can use them all over the face and body and they dry instantly. Mix a little bronzer with your regular moisturizer in a tanning mitt. For a subtle colour use half and half. Use the tanning mitt in up and downward movements until blended. You can literally use this where any skin is exposed like the face and neck or your arms.
The bronzer is great at evening out the complexion so now all you need is a tinted moisturizer rather than a foundation. Use a peas sized amount and apply with fingertips.
If you need concealer apply it with fingertips to areas like beneath the eye and on any blemishes. Pat into the skin with fingertips because the warmth of your fingers will help it to blend.
If you want to take away shine use a powder all over the face or keep it just to the t-zone if your cheeks are dry.
Using a palette that contains both bronzer and blush creates an instant sun kissed effect without the hassle of applying both. Simply swirl together on a brush and apply anywhere the sun would hit your skin like across the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and top of the forehead near the hairline.
The bold brow has been having a beauty moment for a while now and it’s a trend that’s here to stay. The key to pulling it off is to use a brow powder or eye shadow rather than a pencil because it looks softer. Use small strokes onto the skin on any areas where hairs are sparse and be sure to avoid using too much close to the nose, as this can look a little harsh.
A wash of bronze, gold shadow all over the eye is so flattering and makes all eye colours stand out but is subtle enough to work with bold lips.
If you feel like you need a little extra definition, use a chocolate brown pencil to etch a ‘v’ shape around the outer corner of the eye.
The best way to apply lip liner evenly is to start at the cupids bow and use small, feathery strokes to work down the lip. Alternate between doing a little on one side, then a little on the other. Colour in the whole of the lip to create a stain and a long-lasting base for your lipstick.
And now for the crowning glory – The bright lipstick.
Apply lipstick with a lip brush for a really precise application starting at the centre of the lip- that way you won't have too much on your brush when you reach the lip line. My top tip to precision lips is to have a toothpick wrapped in cotton to hand- it makes the best tiny cotton bud to fix mistakes. Blot over the top with a tissue and then press on the lipstick again straight from the bullet. This is the best way to really make your lipstick last.
And that’s my quick guide on why you should drop the safe lip colours this season and go bold like you have never before!
