Mark Cavendish had 20 points deducted after Stage 18 of the Tour de France to reduce his lead in the race for the green jersey to 15 points.

The HTC Highroad rider did not finish in the cut-off time of 6:41:03, which was 33:07 after the Stage winner Andy Schleck crossed the line.

The point deduction leaves Cavendish on 300 points and Jose Rojas is now just 15 points behind him in the sprint category.

Rojas finished within the cut-off time so had no deduction but Cavendish’s other rival, Philippe Gilbert, also had 20 points taken off his total.

It means the winner of the green jersey will not be decided until the Champs Elysees on Sunday.
