Points competition leader Mark Cavendish says fear of letting his HTC-Highroad team-mates down is what drives him to succeed in the Tour sprints.

"It's a fear more than anything," Cavendish told ITV's Ned Boulting, when asked about his motivations.

And alluding to his disappointing sprint defeat to Omega Pharma's Andre Greipel on Stage 10, Cavendish admitted he loses sleep over letting his team down.

"I told you after the stage when Greipel beat me I can't sleep at night," Cavendish said. "I just go over and over, it kills me."

"It's not that I lost, but it's that the guys put everything into it and I can't finish it off," he added.
