David Millar described Garmin-Cervelo's team trial success as 'magic' in Les Essarts as the British rider rose to second in the general classification.

Garmin-Cervelo held off Team Sky and HTC-Highroad to take their first-ever stage win, catapulting Thor Hushovd in the maillot jaune in the process.

Asked what the victory meant to him, Millar said: "The emotions are so much stronger, you know? I've spent most of my my career sitting in buses on my own, waiting for people to see people come across the line. But here it was wonderful, just a whole team of people, not just the riders but all the staff sharing in that emotion. It was magic, that happens so rarely.

And questioned by ITV Cycling reporter Ned Boulting on what he'd said to Geraint Thomas after the stage, Millar replied: "I said come to our team!"

As for defending the yellow jersey for Norwegian team-mate Thor Hushovd, Millar said: "A great rider like Thor Hushovd? It's a joy to race with him. It's nice for us to give him that [yellow jersey] - he's pure class."
