Garmin-Cervelo's Thor Hushovd played down his run-in with Mark Cavendish at the intermediate sprint during Stage 3, however they were both later stripped of their points for the incident.
The two sprinters, who have history of such tussles, touched in the jostling for sixth place after the five breakaway riders had taken the top five points places on offer.
They appeared to have got away with it, but the Tour officials disqualified them after the stage finish in Redon causing both riders to lose points in the green jersey standings.
