Brother Andy might often get all the plaudits, but on Stage 12 Frank Schleck was the one to throw down a major marker, as he leaped up to second in the GC. That makes him our Rider of the Day, as judged by Ciro Scognamiglio:

“He was the best in the group of the riders that will ultimately fight it out for the general classification. Frank Schleck attacked hard on the final climb and put 20 seconds into Evans, Basso and his brother Andy and 33 seconds into pre race favourite Alberto Contador. His attack and pace were so strong up the climb that he almost caught the breakaway group of Samuel Sanchez and Jelle Vanendert.

"The end result of today’s stage saw Frank move up to second overall just one minute and 49 seconds behind Voeckler. This poses and interesting question for general classification. Will Frank help his brother who is 28 seconds behind him or go for yellow himself? The question, after this stage, is open.”

Judge: Ciro Scognamiglio (La Gazzetta dello Sport)
