Cadel Evans becomes the first rider to be awarded the IG Markets Rider of the Day more than once. Here Alasdair Fotheringham explains why.

"Today Cadel Evans reminded the world why he won on Flèche Wallonne's Mur de Huy in 2010. He won with an equally tenacious and finely calculated effort that resulted in a victory by the barest minimum over Alberto Contador - and none of the other top contenders were hanging back, either.

"After a near-miss on stage one and again for BMC in the team time trial on stage three, Evans has proved that he cannot be written off and that as a double runner-up of two Tours de France, he is back in the game again."

Judge: Alasdair Fotheringham (The Independent)
