Philippe Gilbert may have a new haircut for the 2011 Tour de France but that's not stopped his winning streak.

It is now 91 days since the IG Markets Pro Cycling Index leader rode a race he didn't win. That race was the Tour of Flanders, since then Gilbert has won two stage races and five one day races.

Gilbert's one day wins were at Brabantse Pijl, Amstel Gold, Fleche Wallonne, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the Belgium National Road Race. His stage race wins were the Tour of Belgium and Ster ZLM Tour.

His win at the first stage of the Tour de France was his 12th win of the season. Remarkably it was his first win at the Tour de France despite having ridden it four times.

His previous best performance at the Tour was 2nd place in Stage 1 in 2008, losing out to Alejandro Valverde in Plumelec.

Judge: Stephen Farrand, Cyclingnews.com

"Philippe Gilbert said he wanted to win on the Mont des Alouettes finish and yet again he lived up to his promise, just as he did so dominantly in the Ardennes classics.

"He kissed his new Belgian national champion's jersey as he won but was overjoyed to pull on the yellow jersey. Nobody deserved it more."
