Following the shocking crash on Sunday's Stage 9 which took out Johnny Hoogerland and Juan Antonio Flecha, Vacansoleil general manager Daan Luijkx calls for fewer media bikes and cars on the Tour de France.

Like Team Sky directeur sportif Dave Brailsford, Luijkx refuses to rule out the prospect of legal action over the crash, but insists their priority at the moment is to concentrate on the race and helping Hoogerland to continue.

"It's nice to have press ... it's nice to see the riders cycling and suffering. But on the other hand we have safety ... I think they crossed the line between safety and on the other hand the media. We must reduce the cars and the motorcycles in the peloton.

"At this moment we are working on Johnny, to get him back on the bike. After the Tour we'll see what happens ... we don't want to react on emotion."
