Team Garmin-Cervelo won the team time trial on day two of the 2011 Tour de France, a result that saw their rider Thor Hushovd take the yellow jersey from Stage 1 winner Philippe Gilbert.
Geraint Thomas of Team Sky had hoped to be wearing yellow going into Stage 3, to add to the white jersey he won on the race's opening day, but he and his team-mates couldn't quite match Garmin's pace on the 23km route, which started and finished in Les Essarts. Team Sky finished in a creditable third place, four seconds behind the winners, with BMC Racing sandwiched in between, also four seconds off the pace.
Andy Schleck's Leopard Trek team and Mark Cavendish's HTC-Highroad squad finished five seconds behind the stage winners, with Alberto Contador's Saxo Bank-SunGard squad in eighth, 28 seconds behind.
Hushovd's British team-mate David Millar moved up to second in the GC, with Cadel Evans, a live contender for the race win, one second behind in third.
