Briton David Millar has given an optimistic update ahead of the Tour de France after illness forced him to miss last night's official presentation of the teams in Liege.

Millar, the most recent Briton to wear the Tour race leader's yellow jersey and expected to be confirmed in the Olympic squad next week despite a prior ban for doping, was confined to his hotel room by his Garmin-Sharp team ahead of tomorrow's opening 6.4-kilometre prologue.

However, the 35-year-old has now been permitted to leave his room.

"I was touch and go Wednesday with a multitude of unpleasant symptoms, fortunately by last night I was ok and no longer puking in my hand," Millar wrote on Twitter.
