Rider profile: Ryder Hesjedal
With a first name like that, what else could Ryder Hesjedal do? He does it pretty well too, winning the 2012 Giro d'Italia (he's the first – and only – Canadian rider to win a Grand Tour).
Hesjedal's Giro defence in 2013 wasn't a success, however, and he withdrew from the race after suffering from the same type of respiratory infection that ended Sir Bradley Wiggins' race. He should have recovered in plenty of time for Le Tour though and has the all-round ability to challenge for a top-ten finish.
