Villagers stranded

Residents in a tiny Teesdale village say the closure of a bridge which provides the only road into their community has left them cut off from society - and could even put lives at risk.

The old bridge in Barforth near Barnard Castle has become delapidated, but it's not clear which private landowner has responsibility for it.

While the issue is resolved, villagers can only cross the bridge on foot or take their cars on an alternative farm route which would involve a 6 mile round trip.
