Murderer's prison appeal

The family of a 7 year old boy who was murdered are horrified after learning that the man who killed him has applied to be released to an open prison. Seven year old Paul Pearson was sexually assaulted and killed by Richard Blenkey in Saltburn nineteen years ago. He was given a life sentence with a minumum of twenty years. That ends next year which means he has the right to apply for an open jail. Paul's family have been told that because Blenkey's crime pre-dates 1997, he doesn't have to sign the sex offenders' register on his release.
