Portugal's World Cup hopes rest on the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo, and it's no surprise the Real Madrid superstar is nursing a slight injury considering how much football he's played since the last World Cup.

No outfield player heading to the 2014 World Cup, who represents a club in one of Europe's top five leagues, has played more football than Ronaldo in the last four years.

Portugal head coach Paulo Bento is concerned about the wellbeing of captain Cristiano Ronaldo, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

The Real Madrid superstar played in the recent Champions League final despite carrying a knee injury, and that exertion has left the forward with swollen tendons in his left knee. He will go to Brazil, for sure, but he may be protected in training before Portugal's first game, against Germany on Monday 16th June (live on ITV).
