Loew leads tributes to Lahm after Germany skipper announces retirement from international football

Germany coach Joachim Loew led the tributes to World Cup-winning captain Philipp Lahm, who announced his international retirement on Friday.

The 30-year-old Lahm brought an end to his German career after winning 113 caps, the last of which saw him lift the World Cup following last Sunday's final victory over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro.

World Cup winners Germany touched down on home soil on Tuesday morning as they returned to Berlin with the much-coveted top prize in football.
Captain Philipp Lahm led his champions from the aircraft shortly after 10am local time, followed by Bastian Schweinsteiger who was wearing the German flag, and the team were greeted by excited fans trying to get a glimpse of the trophy as they made their way through the airport.
