Sam Tordoff set the fastest time in this afternoon's second free practice session ahead of this weekend's Dunlop British Touring Car Championship races at Croft in North Yorkshire.
The local driver lapped in 1:24.115, nearly half a second faster than the best time from this morning's first practice, to end the session ahead of Andrew Jordan and Adam Morgan.
Jordan set his time of 1:24.390 early on and held a gap of three quarters of a second for much of the first half of the session, until Colin Turkington got within five tenths just before the halfway point.
With around 15 minutes to go, Tordoff beat Jordan's time, before Morgan jumped ahead of Turkington in third.
Rob Austin, running sixth fastest, caused a red flag with ten minutes to go after spinning at Clervaux, causing the session to be stopped early.
That meant Tordoff's team-mate Jason Plato was unable to complete a flying lap, and finished the session 31st and last.
Plato was being vague about his problem, saying "it was something under the car" which the team needed to check.
The United Autosports pair of former British GT champion Glynn Geddie and James Cole had one of their best performances of the season, with Geddie finishing fifth fastest, less than half a second off the pace of Jordan. Cole was as high as fourth earlier in the session before dropping to 15th at the end. "It's getting better and we have to look forward to qualifying now," said Geddie. "We felt we should have done better at Oulton, so we knew it was coming. We've worked hard and we have to capitalise on that."
Aiden Moffat, who didn't set a time in the first session when an oil hose broke on his Chevrolet Cruze, completed the fewest laps - his best time of 1:34.354 was over ten seconds off the pace.
