Saransk is due to host four Group games this summer in the Fifa World Cup.
Capital of the Republic of Mordovia, Saransk is the smallest of the World Cup host cities, is located in the Volga basin on the banks of the Insar Rivers. Founded in 1641 it has a total population of over 344,400 people.
It was founded as a fortress that stood on the southeastern frontier of the Tsardom of Russia.T he indigenous population speaks a Finnic language, from the same group as Hungarian, Finnish and Estonian. Mordovia preserves unique cultures of the Mokshas and Erzyas.
The arena’s exterior design and colour pattern are inspired by Mordovia’s folk art, specifically featuring the symbol of the sun, which can also be found on the flag of theRepublic of Mordovia.
