Chilli Dogs


1 tbsp vegetable oil

1 onion, diced

3 garlic cloves, grated

1 tbsp ground cumin

1 tbsp smoked paprika

1 tsp chilli powder

500g beef mince

1 x 400g tin kidney beans, drained

1 x 400g tin chopped tomatoes

2 tbsp ketchup

1 beef stock cube

6-8 sausages, frankfurters, hot dogs, cooked as per instruction

6-8 hot dog buns, cut down the middle to the halfway point

To serve, fresh chopped chilli, chopped raw onions, grated cheese


1. To make the chilli, heat the oil in a medium sized saucepan on a medium heat. Soften the onion, about 5-10 minutes, then add the garlic and spices, stirring until the aromas hit you.

2. Add the beef mince, and brown all over, then add the beans, tomato ketchup and stock cube, along with seasoning, and increase the heat to high, bring to the boil, then reduce to the lowest simmer and cook, lid off, until thick and the beef is cooked through, about 20 minutes.

3. In the meantime, cook the sausage, frankfurters or hot dogs, according to package instructions.

4. Pop the cooked hot dog into the bun and pile on the chilli, top with extras like grated cheese, raw onion and extra chilli.
