Eight-year-old is 'happier' after meeting other children through a bereavement charity
On Monday, Good Morning Britain launched the 1 million minutes campaign asking viewers to give the gift of time for someone who might be lonely.
GMB has teamed up with six charities who all work with people who are lonely. Alzheimer's society, Grief Encounter, The Not Forgotten, The Silver Line, Re-engage (formerly Contact the Elderly) and the Princes Trust.
On the show, we were joined by the adorable Sophia who sadly lost her mother Shanifa to breast cancer when she was just three years old. She was joined by her father Asif and they both praised how Grief Encounter has helped them after their loss.
After the death of her mother, Sophia got to meet other children who have been through similar experiences through the Grief Encounter choir.
She explained: “It’s helped because even though I’m the only one in my class that has lost a parent, when I go to a grief encounter choir, I’m not the only one.”
Pledging your time can be as little as committing 60 minutes only to 2 hours a week, or 3 hours a month. Click here and sign up for the opportunity you want with the charity you want to volunteer with.
