'That was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life' - Ben Shephard flies in a spitfire
It has always been Ben's dream to fly in a Spitfire and now he has had the chance to do so to commemorate the Battle of Britain's 80th anniversary on the 15th September and how the Spitfire was crucial to Britain's victory.
The summer of 1940 will always be associated with the Supermarine Spitfire, the single-engined RAF plane which became the most potent symbol of Britain's fight against German subjugation. The very name Spitfire is now synonymous with victory in the air.
As he took to the skies in the iconic plane, Ben said the experience "exceeded" his expectations.
Back on the ground, Ben described the flight as "extraordinary."
He said: "That was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. Something I will never ever forget."
