Broken up spouses can now check in to the Divorce Hotel...

A weekend can be romantic - apart from if you're checking into the Divorce Hotel.

This weekend saw the first instance of one opening in the UK - offering a packaged break which offers couples the chance to check into a luxury resort and check OUT of their marriage.

Participants don't actually get divorced in 48 hours, but all the paperwork is agreed and signed ready for the courts - with the split then be finalised within three months. Hundreds of couples in Holland and the US have already used the service.

We spoke to an anonymous couple who checked in, as well as a woman in America who has used the service, and they all thought it made the process less traumatising. However we were also joined by Sir Paul Coleridge of the Marriage Foundation, who fears it might trivialise divorce.

So, is the Divorce Hotel a good idea, or does it threaten the sanctity of marriage by making getting out of it easier?
