Transport Secretary Grant Shapps reveals his father is in hospital fighting Covid
Transport secretary Grant Shapps was also on the show to talk about the government’s quarantine rules. During the interview, he opened up about his father currently being in a Covid ward in hospital. He praised the work doctors and nurses were doing as he had not been able to see his father for two months.
He said: “It’s been very difficult… Coronavirus gets everybody, it got my dad. It wasn’t the reason he went into hospital originally but unfortunately he did pick it up and we are all very worried.”
He went on: “He’s 89 but he’s always been quite tetchy and he was able to Whatsapp call us. Unfortunately, in the last day or two we’ve not been getting contact with him the same way.”
On parking charges for staff at NHS hospitals, he said: “Actually we are paying for them not to charge for parking for NHS staff as well.” He said he had asked questions about this hospital and he hoped it would be resolved later in the day.
He added that at the moment there was no travel for holidays or leisure and so “the borders are more or less closed as there are very few reasons why you can travel domestically or internationally.”
