Watch the emotional moment 80-year-old pensioner with dementia Paul Harvey composes piano music live on GMB
A pensioner with dementia whose video went viral after his son shared it online composed a beautiful piece of music live on GMB this morning.
Paul Harvey, 80, played the sweet-sounding melody after Susanna Reid gave him just four notes to kick off with.
Speaking from East Sussex about going viral in the last few days, he joked: “I’m too old to get excited about it.”
His proud son Nick told GMB: “It’s been a crazy couple of days. I genuinely felt so privileged to be in the same room when he came up with that. It’s something he did before when I was a child, he was teaching at a summer school run by two famous jazz musicians Chloe Laine and Johnny Dankworth and it was the first time I saw him do this. He asked the assembled masses just to throw four random notes at him and he created this beautiful piece of music and the whole room erupted, and I’ve never forgotten that. A couple of days ago he was struggling to play and I remembered that moment.”
Susanna gave him four notes - C, D, G and B - and he came up with a beautiful piece of music on the spot to play the show out.
Piers said: “Thank you so much, what a magical moment.”
