Beyonce's dad claims she 'wouldn't be as successful' if she had darker skin
Beyonce's Dad, Mathew Knowles has told Good Morning Britain that part of his daughter's success is down to her being light-skinned. He claims that lighter-skinned artists are more popular in pop radio in the States.
Mathew Knowles says he doesn't look to his daughters when referring to colourism but says that the success of artists like Mariah Carey and Rihanna rides on the light colour of the skin.
He told Good Morning Britain: 'It's a known fact if we look over the last 10 years if we look at colourism, which is discrimination based on a shade of colour, it's a fact.'
He then added: 'Shade of colour does matter in pop radio.'
Beyonce has had a shimmering career encompassing success as part of Destiny's Child and more famously as a solo artist. The singer, aged 36, has released six studio albums, six live albums and more than 60 singles.
