Piers Morgan reacts to Nicola Sturgeon celebrating Jo Swinson's defeat
Nicola Sturgeon was seen celebrating after her SNP candidate Amy Callaghan took East Dunbartonshire from Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson.
In a video shared by Sky News, Scotland's First Minister was seen cheering and fist-pumping after it was revealed her party had successfully secured one of the biggest steals in the General Election.
The defeat led to Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson quitting her post with immediate effect.
Watching back the moment on Good Morning Britain Piers Morgan said: "One thing this has shown us again is the brutality of politics.
"Never laid bare more than in Nicola Sturgeon's reaction," he continued. "An off the cuff spontaneous reaction to the news that Jo Swinson, her rival party leader, had lost her seat in Scotland.
"She is happy, that is the end of someone's career she's celebrating there. I celebrated less enthusiastically when Arsenal had scored!"
The news comes after the remain-backing party suffered a loss in the polls, securing just 11 seats.
Swinson, who promised to stop Brexit if she gained the keys to Number 10, kicked off her campaign claiming she could be the next Prime Minister but lost in her East Dunbartonshire constituency to the SNP by 149 seats.
It was confirmed in a statement that Ed Davey and Sal Brinton would take over as joint interim leaders.
Delivering an emotional speech, Ms Swinson's voice cracked as she admitted her party had suffered a bad night.
She said: "Some will be celebrating the wave of nationalism that is sweeping on both sides of the border. For millions of people in our country, these results will bring dread and dismay and people are looking for hope."
