'Fornite Millionaire' Jaden Ashman, 15, will buy mum a house with £900,000 winnings
Teenager Jaden Ashman who won almost £1,000,000 playing computer game Fortnite revealed he will be spending his winnings on a new house for his mum.
Jaden and his teammate came second in the Fortnite World Cup finals in New York, where the cash prize was £900,000 ($ 1.2 million).
Asked by Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard what he was going to do with the money, he said: “I'm probably going to buy my mum a house, so we can just chill out."
He added: "Me and my brother have a bunk bed, so my set up is here and my bed is right next to it - so I'm definitely going to buy a house so that I can separate my gaming from my sleeping.”
15-year-old Jaden would spend up to 8 hours a day playing the popular video game in his bedroom, leading his mum to smash his Xbox and headset after she became frustrated by his habit.
However, he remained undeterred and now his passion is turning into a lucrative career as it was revealed he signed a lucrative £50,000 a year contract to play professionally.
Talking about the competition in America, Jaden explained: “To be honest, we didn’t really expect to come as high as we did. We’d been practising since February and we were hoping if we made it to the top ten, then we would of have done well. To come second was just amazing!”
Jade only met his Dutch teammate in person for the first time when they arrived at the tournament.
Speaking about his teammate, he said: “He’s a bit older than me. It was like I knew him but I didn’t know him. It was really, really good because it was time to have that connection.”
Jaden's mum Lisa Dallman said she originally had doubts about her son's obsession with Fortnite but was won over by the 'skill' involved after accompanying him on the trip to New York.
“I didn’t realise what a big competition [it was], I didn’t take it seriously, all I knew was he’s playing Fortnite," she explained.
The mum-of-three added: “Since going to New York, I have learnt so much about the game and it’s not just about the game, it’s all of the skills that Jaden uses to play it.
"My son is equipped with so many skills I didn’t even realise he was using."
