Prince Harry and Meghan announce the name of their son
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they have named their son Archie.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have named their first born son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
After much speculation, the couple announced the news on their Sussex Royal Instagram account after revealing the new addition had met The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.
The caption read: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
"This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion."
A touching black and white photograph sees Meghan smiling as she holds the newborn in her arms, while Prince Harry and her mother Doria Ragland look on adoringly.
The Queen and Prince Philip are also seen gazing at their great-grandson as they meet him for the first time.
Photographer Chris Allerton took a series of personal photographs for the couple, who shared them with their 6.7 million followers.
Earlier this week it had been hinted that the couple would break with tradition and choose a modern name.
According to Nameberry.com the name Archie is a boy's name of German origin and means 'truly brave' .
The news comes after bookmakers had tipped Albert, Arthur and Alexander to be among the favourites.
