The competitive spirit will set in and I will be very competitive to get all the stars
– Is Carl set to shine in the jungle this year?
• Best known as: World Superbike champion
• Age: 49
• Relationship status: Married
• Phobias: Food, boredom and people
• Dream camper: Richard Branson
The daredevil racer has notched up a whopping 59 victories on the track but has admitted being out of his comfort zone is going to make the jungle a lot more frightening.
“Motorbike racing is scary for a lot of people but for me it's easy,” Carl said. “It's what I have been brought up with. Going in the jungle will be so much harder.”
With a long list of dislikes, it’s no wonder he is concerned. Carl revealed: “I am not a people person. I like my own company and I like my own space. Hunger is what I’m dreading most. If I haven’t got food, I will get bored.
"I am not a massive fan of heights,” he added. “I don’t like flying very much. I like being in control.”
So what on earth made the retired sporting legend want to go into the jungle? His competitive nature of course.
“It’s been a while since I had a challenge,” he said. “I wanted to see if I could stick at it without walking out. There is a big part of me that is saying ‘you can’t do that’ but I am definitely at a stage in my life where I want to give it a go.”
You know what they say Carl, if you set your mind on doing something...
