Michelle Heaton tells her body story and shows surgery scars after undergoing double mastectomy and hysterectomy
BRAVE MICHELLE HEATON TELLS HER BODY STORY: 'HERE ARE MY HYSTERECTOMY SCARS!'
Michelle joined us 'shaking' to tell her Body Story and reveal her hysterectomy scars for first time on live TV,
Michelle had a mastectomy and hysterectomy, due to the fact she's a BRCA2 gene carrier and is more likely to get breast and ovarian cancer. She underwent an elective double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in 2012 before having a complete hysterectomy and oophorectomy to reduce her risk of developing ovarian cancer in 2015.
Wearing a low-rise bikini for the first time, Michelle bravely agreed to show her scars and talked us through the surgeries she's had to save her life, admitting, 'I'm shaking'.
She said: 'My whole thing is about trying to get women to be more confident and comfortable in their own body, and be who we want to be. So I thought, "If I don't do it, who am I to give advice to other people?"'
Michelle, who revealed she usually wears high-waisted bikinis because the scars are 'between me and my husband' showed her c-section and hysterectomy scars.
'I have two c-sections scars, one was emergency with faith and my second one was planned because of the first one,' Michelle explained. 'Then this is my total hysterectomy and as you can see I have a bit of a pouch – it’s not about being slim. I have to be careful when I’m wearing a bikini because if it’s a low bikini people are going to see this. Usually I would wear a high-waisted bikini or a bathing suit.'
She went on to describe the scars left by breast surgery, the scar on her chest from having a heart monitor fitted and scar on her bum, which is where she gets a hormone replacement every six months to help with menopause since the hysterectomy.
'I have had six so far, and every time I have another one, I have another scar,' Michelle said.
