Jennifer Ellison: 'I was size 18 in self-destruct mode!'
JENNIFER ELLISON 'I WAS A SIZE 18 IN IN SELF-DESTRUCT MODE!'
Guest Loose Woman Jennifer revealed she was so insecure about her weight gain in recent years that she would be anxious about bumping into people at the local shops.
'I was getting anxiety about seeing people from my past because I thought they were looking at me thinking what the hell happened to you?' Jen explained. 'People in the shops would be like, "God girl, you’ve piled on the weight haven’t you!"'
Talking about being a size 18 at her heaviest, Jennifer admitted she wasn't prioritising her own health after having children, saying, 'I was size 18 in self-destruct mode. I wouldn’t look in the mirror, I didn’t care. Everything was about my (sons).'
Jennifer - who is mum to three young sons with husband Rob and suffered post-natal depression - was ordered to lose weight by her agent to gain acting roles again.
'I had the baby and had depression. I remember I was going for my first audition and it was typecast blonde and slim and my husband was saying, "You look fabulous darling!",' Jennifer explained.
'I got a call from my agent and he said sometimes we have to do things in our clients best interest and he said the casting director had been in touch and said if you want to get another role you have to lose weight and get back to your Chicago figure.'
She went to a detox retreat where she was rationed to a tiny 400 calories a day - far too low for any adult. 'We'd have ONE raisin for breakfast and I’d have a slice of apple and a six mile walk and get back starving,' Jen said.
Now, Jennifer has a better relationship with her body and looks happy.
'I was told the perfect analogy: when you have to put on a flight oxygen mask, you have to put yours on first. In order to be good mum to them you have to look after yourself. With me it was self-neglect, everything was about the boys,' Jen said.
