Katie Price breaks her silence on rehab, Harvey's Law and drugs: "I was self medicating on drugs. It was disgusting"
EXCLUSIVE: KATIE PRICE SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON REHAB, DRUGS AND HARVEY'S LAW
Katie Price returned to talk openly about her most difficult year in which she went to rehab and had money worries.
“They [the press] said I was in rehab for drink and drugs. Nothing to do with that at all, absolutely nothing," Katie said. "I wasn’t even near anyone who was doing drink and drugs in The Priory. I was in there as they said.. severe traumatic rehabilitation is what I needed. It was to do with all that had happened to me at the beginning of the year. So if you imagine in year ago I got told my mum was dying, my dog got run over and killed on my driveway, my horse got killed outside my house, I had a kidnap threat with Harvey, I caught the ex husband cheating again then obviously divorcing him, then I had the hijack where I was held at gunpoint in South Africa.”
“If you imagine all of that..It was a nightmare so I went to the doctors and said I’m not myself. I wouldn’t go horse riding, I just wanted to sleep all the time, I couldn’t turn to anyone. So I went into the Priory, I wasn’t a resident in there, I literally took the kids to school went in there for the day and picked the kids up after.”
On 'self medicating' with drugs, Katie revealed: "I think that’s why my family and friends were really hurt and didn’t know what to do because I’ve never been in … for all those years in this industry .. you can choose that path if you want or you don’t and I didn’t, I purely did it to self medicate….but I went to the doctors and said this isn’t me and I told them the truth.”
“I wasn’t really drinking, just self medicating on drugs basically. It’s disgusting but it was my way of dealing with it. That’s when I was like: no, I know I need help, this is not me. At least I can hold my hands up and I’m so glad I did because if I didn’t speak out I would probably still be in that rut now.”
Katie also talked about sharing custody of four of her children - Junior, Princess, Bunny and Jett - with their fathers, Peter Andre and Kieran Hayler.
'The kids are back to normal. I don’t blame Pete doing what he did at beginning, my ex Kieran told him I was self-medicating, more drama behind that, everything is back to normal now. It has been like that for ages,' Katie explained.
And she updated us on Harvey's Law, the online petition to make online abuse a crime as well as start an offenders register which has gained backing from MPs. Katie's eldest son Harvey, 16, is partially blind and autistic and has genetic disorder Prader-Willi syndrome.
On Harvey’s law Katie said, “I cannot believe it has happened and we won it and it’s called Harvey’s Law. I would say out of my whole career this is the best thing I have ever done, achieved, and to make it a law that online abuse will be a criminal offence is just amazing. My Mum’s dream was that before she dies we would make this happen. So one of your dreams has come true Mum! She is over the moon.”
