WATCH: Our Coleen Nolan Gets Swaddled Like A Baby!
On today’s episode of Loose Women, our very own Coleen Nolan is the lucky lady to try out the current Japenese craze of adult swaddling.
An unusual trend developed by a Japanese midwife and similar to the practice usually used on babies, Andrea McLean, Nadia Sawalha and Saira Khan today watched on as Coleen was adult swaddled.
The practice is said to help combat post-natal depression, tiredness and stress in women having just given birth. Named “Otona Maki” in Japan, which literally translates to “Adult Wrapping”, it supposedly imitates being in the womb, with its soothing effects said to aid sleep and reduce anxiety.
Coleen commented: “It sounds a bit fetishy to me!”
Coleen was joined on the studio floor by Sophie from Yoga Birth, who is a pre and post-birth doula and yoga teacher, who began the wrapping process.
Andrea explains: “There’s clearly an art involved. You sit crossed-legged on the floor, you wrap up in a blanket or piece of fabric. The practitioner secures the blanket with knots and rocks you gently from side-to-side.”
Whilst being wrapped, Coleen says: “I’m feeling zen, but I’m just sitting here thinking that I used to be a really big pop star!” to which Andrea quips: “Coleen, you’re big in Japan. They’ll love you in this.”
Coleen asks the practitioner: “Are you going to roll me back? I might break wind!... Please tell me the camera is not at THAT angle, down there?”
Concluding the hilarious segment Coleen admits: “Can I just say in all seriousness, if I can be serious, that this bit is actually really relaxing…(although) I’ve just realised, I look like ET!”
