Exclusive: Dan chats to Taylor Swift

Some artists really are just shot out of the cannon... I had a little bit more time

Taylor Swift

As she begins her UK tour tonight, US superstar Taylor Swift talks exclusively to Dan Wootton.

She's recently been voted Forbes Most Powerful Woman in Entertainment and had the top selling album in the world and believe it or not, 25-year-old Taylor Swift released her first single nine years ago at just 14. Taylor thinks that this gave her a great grounding in the music business. She said, "I've had time to mentally and emotionally prepare for this type of pressure and the pace."

Taylor counts the likes of Ellie Goulding, Haim and Selena Gomez as her friends and said that meeting these people has made her enjoy the renownedly tough industry a lot more. “I go to these award shows and I really do feel like I’m seeing a lot of my friends and the more friends that I make who are awesome and cool and are at these events, the less it feels like some strange competitive atmosphere."

It feels really wonderful to have my fifth album feel like the breakthrough album

Taylor Swift

Taylor brings her 1989 World Tour to the UK which comes off the back of her hugely successful album 1989. It was a different sound for Taylor and was her pop breakthrough with hits like Shake It Off and Bad Blood.

When asked if we are to expect a pop extravaganza on the 1989 World Tour, Taylor said, "We took double the amount of time to put this tour together... I knew people were going to want a huge spectacle. That's what we've given it."

Friends like Cara Delevigne have popped up in Taylor's show as surprise guests. Dan asked if Taylor's planning any surprises for the UK and she smiled and said, "we possibly could be... but the cool thing about surprise guests is that they are surprises."

Taylor kicks off the UK leg of the 1989 World Tour in Glasgow tonight, before heading to Manchester and London's British Summertime festival in Hyde Park this weekend.
