Sue's spectacular!

You're a woman, it's hardwired to your DNA

Sue on being told by a doctor that not being able to have children would be easier for her because she's gay

Comedian and presenter Sue Perkins joins Lorraine to talk about her first ever book, Spectacles. The memoir starts with the Great British Bake Off star's childhood memories and gives us an insight into her many personal endeavours.

It also reveals stories from her professional life, and details her wonderful friendship with best pal and onscreen partner in crime, Mel Giedroyc.

''Im very lucky ... we're great pals," Sue said. ''We're like a couple of slightly overweight toddlers."

Although packed with plenty of funny anecdotes, we also see a more serious side of Sue as she comes to terms with the news that she will not be able to have children after a benign non-cancerous tumour was discovered on her pituitary gland.

Sue said she was delivered the devastating blow by a doctor who wrongly assumed the news would be easier to accept and overcome as a gay woman.

''What I wanted to write was not the fact I had a benign tumour, but the way I was told," Sue told Lorraine.

''I'm a woman, it's hardwired into our DNA."

Spectacles is out now.
