"We're continuing to drive the recovery of this issue " said the O2 website in a twist of public relations gobbledygook. The network's 23 million UK customers were told at dawn: "Unfortunately we're unable to confirm any timescales for service restoration".

Not all users are hit by this crash - but many thousands are. The latest information is that 2G is now working - but 3G is still hit.

O2 also run networks for Tesco and Giffgaff. GiffGaff said today:

Early yesterday afternoon an issue occurred with O2’s network that giffgaff uses for calls, texts and data. This problem impacted some of our members use of those services. As an MVNO, we run on O2’s network which we use with them and Tesco Mobile, both of which also had customers who couldn’t use their mobile services, due to the same problem. Lastly, we are very sorry for this issue and understand how frustrating it is.
