As reports grow of hurricane Sandy fatalities in the USA, current estimates are that at least 55 people in the US have been killed.

Before Sandy made it to North America it left a trial of destruction in the Caribbean, where at least 69 people were killed as a result of the storm.

Haiti was particularly badly hit. Droughts earlier this year were followed by hurricane Isaac in August. This left the island struggling with poor conditions and damage to crops when hurricane Sandy flooded fields which had so far escaped the onslaught.

ITV News' Richard Pallot reports on the desperate conditions:

The World Food Programme says damage to crops in the south of the country is the latest blow for struggling agriculture.
