Omid Djalili dived his way into the semi-final of ITV's new entertainment show Splash! with an impressed Tom Daley looking on.

The comedian, who dived from the 10 metre board, scored 23 points out of a possible 30, meaning that he topped the leaderboard.

Celebrity scores (out of a possible 30):

  • Omid Djalili - 23

  • Jake Canuso - 22

  • Jenni Falconer - 20.5

  • Jade Ewen - 18

  • Helen Lederer - 14

Splash! judge Jo Brand said Djalili's dive was "so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes" and described him as the "most majestic turkey" she had ever seen.

After the comedian's impressive dive from the highest deck, he joked with host Vernon Kay:

I was diving with a sore throat and the doctor did say I might damage my vocal chords irrevocably but it actually went ok. I think we all went a bit over but that's nerves I think.

A combination of the scores the celebrities received and a vote from the general public, meant that presenter Jenni Falconer and actor Jake Canuso went into the Splash!-off

The judges were split in their decision on who should join Djalili in the semi-final, with Team GB's diving coach Andy Banks opting for Falconer, while Brand and former Olympic diving medallist Leon Taylor chose Canuso.

Taylor, who had the deciding vote, said he chose to put the actor through because he dived from a higher deck - the five metre board.

It's very sad to see Jenni go because she's done a very technical dive from the three metre but Jake, well done, and I look forward to working with you again.

The second heat next week will see Caprice, Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards, Joey Essex, Diarmuid Gavin and Charlotte Jackson competing for a semi-final place.
