Tamera Foster was left in tears when she was booted off the X Factor tonight.
Despite being a hit with the judges during yesterday's show, low public votes left Foster in the bottom two and facing a sing off against Luke Friend.
The pair sang again but a tie in judges' votes took the tense showdown to deadlock and back to the public vote which saw bottom placed Foster kicked off the show.
With tears streaming down her face, she said: "I've had the most amazing time, I couldn't have hoped for anything more."
Judge Gary Barlow told Foster: "In the future I think you will be one of the biggest stars" while fellow judge Nicole Scherzinger agreed: "Five years in the future, she is going to be the most successful."
During the sing off, Foster sang Christina Aguilera's The Voice Within and Luke Friend sang Run by Snow Patrol.
Louis Walsh praised Friend, saying: "You're easily the best person on that stage" while Sharon Osborne said he gave "such an organic, natural performance". Both judges voted to keep Friend in the show.
Tonight's show also saw a performance from last year's winner James Arthur, despite an online petition to ITV bosses to have him banned.
Twitter fury erupted last week after Arthur called Croydon battle MC Micky Worthless a "f***ing queer" in a diss track that was played live on the radio.
Speaking on the X Factor tonight, Arthur said: "You know it's been an amazing year for me" which had "incredible highs compared with terrible lows".
He admitted that he had "made some mistakes" and added: "I am sorry for abusing my position as an X Factor winner", saying he owed everything to the show.
Rebecca Ferguson, runner-up in X Factor in 2010, was also back tonight to perform her latest single I Hope.
The 27-year-old from Liverpool backed Sam Bailey and Foster, adding that she thought Foster has "got real star quality", but the public obviously did not agree.
Bailey, Rough Copy and Nicholas McDonald join Friend to sing again next week. The final is on December 14 and 15.
