Canadian pop singer and teen heartthrob Justin Bieber has told his Twitter followers he is "officially retiring" on the eve of the release of his film.

His message was confused slightly in subsequent tweets when he insisted "I'm never leaving you" and "I'm here forever".

The 19-year-old, who has over 47 million Twitter followers, then went on to retweet a slew of fans' messages about his film.

His supposed retirement has not been confirmed by his agent or record company.
